SNS Industry Day

The Strategic National Stockpile (SNS) of the Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response (ASPR) will host an Industry Day on October 21, 2022, at the Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) Conference Center, 250 14th Street, NW, Atlanta, GA 30318.  The event is held from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm, and the doors will open at 7:00 am.

Although this will be an in-person event with limited seating of 225 participants, a recording of the event will be posted to the ASPR/SNS website for those unable to attend. Registration will be on a first come first serve basis.

Strategic National Stockpile

A health threat can appear at any moment, and the United States must be ready to respond. The Strategic National Stockpile (SNS) is part of the federal medical response infrastructure and can supplement medical countermeasures needed by states, tribal nations, territories and the largest metropolitan areas during public health emergencies. The supplies, medicines, and devices for lifesaving care contained in the stockpile can be used as a short-term, stopgap buffer when the immediate supply of these materials may not be available or sufficient. The SNS team works every day to prepare and respond to emergencies, support state and local preparedness activities, and ensure availability of critical medical assets to protect the health of Americans.

With more than 250 civil servants, U.S. Public Health Service officers, and contractors, the SNS is organized to support any public health threat. Stockpile staff represent a variety of specialties, including pharmacy, clinical care, emergency management, medical logistics and operations, quality control, public health, procurement and financial management, information technology, strategic planning, training, policy and communications. All work together to ensure the right resources are ready and can get to the right place at the right time.

SNS in Pictures The SNS has large quantities of medicine and medical supplies to protect the public if there is a health emergency (terrorist attack, outbreak, earthquake) severe enough to cause local supplies to run out. Once a federal decision to deploy is made, SNS materiel will be rapidly delivered to any U.S. jurisdiction that needs assistance. Each jurisdiction has plans to receive and distribute SNS medicine and medical supplies to local communities as quickly as possible.

Strengthening public health preparedness capabilities and readiness at the state and local level is a critical component in the broader national public health emergency preparedness and response framework. The SNS helps prepare state, tribal, local and territorial responders for an emergency when stockpile items are deployed. This preparation is accomplished by providing extensive training, technical assistance opportunities, and guidance to these partners on how to receive and make effective use of products from the stockpile and on developing and exercising their preparedness plans.
